The thing that bothers me the most about the Lions is even if they started 10-2, no one within the league or outside of it would think they couldn't be beat. They are probably the only team in the league that will never strike fear in their opponents. It's like a team of 53 Tony Romos.
They may put up points, but they'll give them up just as easily.
They may be winning by ten and pitching a shutout, but no one sits around smiling, knowing a victory is in hand.
If all the stars align, they can beat anyone in the league. The problem is that the stars don't move all that much.
Even in 2008, I laughed off defeat after defeat, but I don't think I've ever lost faith in a team like I have this year with this one. Everyone might think we still have a shot, we're leading the division for what seems like the 10th straight week after all. But let me be the first (or 500th) to tell you. We're not making the playoffs. We're not winning another game. The Bears and Packers smell blood.
We are going 7-9, and I am losing my damn mind. This season was written off after the Tampa Bay game. Maybe even the Pittsburgh game. Those were must win games, even way back in week 11. If we had beaten Pittsburgh and Tampa, we'd be 9-4 right now, 2.5 or 3 games up on the division with enough cushion to fall into the playoffs. These next three games are going to be the most painful of the season to watch. Baltimore is playing well lately, winning three in a row. We're faltering, and we all know how it's going to end. The Giants are better coached than we are. The Vikings have home field. I've mentioned it before, but we're 1-9 in Minnesota IN THE PAST DECADE.
The season's over. The Lions are like that fuck up cousin or friend everyone has. The one that can't get out of their own way or overcome their personal shit and get their life together. It's depressing and all you want to do is cut ties with them because you feel like they're holding you back.
The Lions are holding us all back. We're too close to just sit there and do nothing, but that's the plight of fandom. That's all we can do. It's painful and unbearable, and I'm not sure I can watch.
