Lately I've been reading a lot of surveys put on by various papers and media outlets about who Detroit she take in the first round this year. It usually favors Millner CB from Alabama followed by about 50 fans stating that were idiots and have no idea how to build a team. Lets face it: not a single one of us knows how to build a football team, thats why Mayhew is in office and I am here writing about them.
Personally I would applaud drafting Millner if he is available because everyone knows were incredibly week at corner; but then again I'm really intrigued by drafting a pass rusher. A few years ago I didn't see the point considering who we had on our line but it appears that it makes all the difference in the world. We just got rid of KVB and I'm willing to bet the Lions won't bring back Avril; he wants big money and he's flat out not worth it. I'm glad he has good sack numbers but can't defend the run worth a crap and we need a DE who can do both.
My point is that I do not think we can go wrong in the 1st round as long as we stick to Defense. The only 3 positions that are set right now is MLB and our 2 DT's. Every other position is wide open and there are players available at the #5 pick who can be an a huge upgrade at any of those vacancies. Also the keep in mind that we have the 5th pick in the 2nd round and because the draft is so deep these days, we can still pick up a potential game changer on either side of the ball.
Bottom line is I am always on board with taking the best player available however at this point I think that should only apply to Defense at least in the 1st round.
