Lions interested in Steve Breaston, according to report

Peter Aiken

The Detroit Lions have reportedly expressed interest in free-agent wide receiver Steve Breaston.

Wide receiver Steve Breaston was released by the Kansas City Chiefs last week, making him a free agent. Already he has visited the Pittsburgh Steelers, and he is set to visit the Cleveland Browns as well. Those aren't the only two teams interested in him, though. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Breaston has also drawn some interest from the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans (via SideLion Report).

Breaston spent three years with the Chiefs after spending three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. He put up solid numbers as a wide receiver from 2008-11, but they dropped off in a big way last season. Part of that is because he only played in 10 games, and I'm sure the quarterback issues in Kansas City didn't help matters.

Breaston makes a lot of sense for a team like the Lions. Not only could he help fill the need at wide receiver that was created by Titus Young being released, but Breaston has the ability to return kicks and punts as well. He was an excellent returner in college at Michigan, and although he hasn't served as a returner since the first few years of his NFL career, the Lions have a need there as well.
