Two Detroit Lions free agents have signed with other teams.
A pair of Detroit Lions free agents officially departed for other teams on Wednesday. Defensive tackle Sammie Hill agreed to a three-year deal worth $11.4 million with the Tennessee Titans, while cornerback Drayton Florence landed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers.
Hill's contract makes it pretty obvious as to why the Lions didn't make much of an attempt to re-sign him. The Lions couldn't afford to give that much to a backup defensive tackle, especially considering Hill wants more playing time. He will get more of a chance to start in Tennessee, and the nice pay day certainly doesn't hurt, either.
Florence wasn't expected to be back with the Lions after he was benched at the end of last season. The Lions brought him in just before the start of the regular season as extra depth at cornerback, but he was on the bench by the end of the year. The Lions were pretty clearly going in another direction, so it's no big loss that he signed with the Panthers.
