Lions rumors: Detroit 'still in the mix' for Louis Delmas

J. Meric

The Detroit Lions are reportedly still in contention for safety Louis Delmas.

Despite the Detroit Lions signing safety Glover Quin to a five-year deal on Wednesday, they apparently are still pursuing safety Louis Delmas. Originally, Quin was believed to be a replacement for Delmas, who was expected to sign with the St. Louis Rams after visiting the team. However, both Dave Birkett and John Niyo report that there is still a chance that Delmas could re-sign with the Lions.

Delmas reportedly received an offer from the Lions last week. It didn't seem to be to his liking, which is why he was believed to be as good as gone when he visited the Rams. No deal is done with St. Louis, though, so perhaps the door is in fact still open for Delmas to return.

If the Lions do manage to bring back Delmas, that would be quite a win for their secondary. They already re-signed Chris Houston, and having both Delmas and Quin would give the Lions their best pair of safeties in quite some time. Delmas' health would still be a concern going forward, but at least the Lions wouldn't be so desperate for help at safety if he were to go down.

Right now, Delmas seems to be the last major piece of the puzzle for the Lions when it comes to the initial wave of free agency. More moves will almost certainly be made in the coming weeks, but Delmas' situation seems to be the last one truly worth watching for now.
