Comparing raw Numbers at the CB position.

I was comparing raw numbers in the guys we have, Milliner, Claiborne, and Peterson. I will first start with guys we have then add the other three as a comparison. I understand that athletic ability alone does not translate into being a good football player, but the numbers are interesting to look at.

Name Height Weight 40 yard 20 yard 10 yard Bench Vertical Broad 20 yard 3-cone

dash dash dash reps jump jump shuttle drill

Houston 5'09.7" 185 4.32 2.52 1.50 27 36 10'02" 4.12 6.94

Bartell* 6'01.2" 211 4.37 2.54 1.52 21 35 1/2

Bentley** 5'10.0" 182 4.42 2.52 1.55 13 31 1/2 9'06" 4.50 6.99

Greenwood*** 6'01.2" 193 4.41 2.60 1.58 16 43 11'02" 4.15 6.99

Green*** 5'11.2" 191 4.40 2.49 1.53 15 32 1/2 10'02" 4.31 7.26

Milliner**** 6'00" 201 4.37 36 10'02" 4.32 6.95

Claiborne***** 5'11.1" 188 4.50 2.56 1.57 34 1/2 9'10" 4.12 7.01

Peterson 6'00.2" 219 4.31 2.44 1.49 15 38 10'06" 4.07 6.58

*left ankle sprain during workout. Did not do all the drills.

**beat his combine vertical jump on this Pro Day with a 35 1/2"

***Pro Day results, no combine invite

****NFL Draft Scout number not posted yet, so no splits on 40 yard dash

*****no bench,wrist

So with out looking at the tape, we can see the Lions have 5 potential starting Corner Backs on their roster already. We can see that Bartell, who was drafted at 18 in the second round, had the same athletic ability as Milliner. Bartell is 31 years old now and two years removed from his neck injury. As nice veteran to have with 3 second year players.

As a side note. What was Dallas thinking when they traded up to take Claiborne at the #5 overall pick in a deep CB class? Is the 20 yard shuttle that big of indicator for a CB?

So what do you guys think? Are we set for now at CB, are should we consider an up grade?

I did have it all lined up for easier viewing.
