So, I was browsing ESPN the today and I found this article. Kraft is known as one of the better owners in the league and I think this is one of the reasons why. He knew what was coming and headed it off early. He presented a win win situation to his best player that allows his team to continue to be competitive and perhaps push for a Super Bowl chance or two in the next few years. Quoted from the article....
"I was just trying to stay ahead of the curve. If we were going to have to pay him elite-quarterback money and have elite-quarterback cap numbers, I just didn't think we would be able to build a team. We don't want to have a team where we're paying 18 to 20 percent to a player on the cap. I wanted to do something elegant that would work for everybody. I had been talking to him off and on for maybe 18 months, about how I wanted him to finish his career here, and about how we both have to be smart about it. I just really want him to end his career a Patriot.''
18-20 percent of the cap? Uggg.... Kraft is saying he does not want to have one player counting for that much of his cap space. We have Stafford (17%), Suh (15%) and CJ (10%). Combined they account for 42% of our cap space. I understand that you want to trust your people but being the owner, if you are active with your team, can be the difference between where we stand today and where we could stand next year and the years ahead. So I ask
Mr. Ford Jr. Have you talked to Stafford? I am not talking about a phone call. I am talking about looking him in the eye and shaking his hand and talking to the man. He is the future of the team and if we can get him signed to a fair deal for both sides, we can eek out another bit of talent here or there on the rest of the team.
Get on your private plan and get to work Mr. Ford Jr. Your team needs you.
Poll
