Lions free agency: Sammie Hill reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams

USA TODAY Sports

Defensive tackle Sammie Hill is reportedly drawing interest from multiple teams, but the Detroit Lions apparently are not among them.

It's looking more and more like the Detroit Lions are going to have a tough time re-signing defensive tackle Sammie Hill. His agent said earlier this week that Hill is almost certainly going to test free agency, and MLive's Anwar Richardson reports that at least four teams have already expressed interest in him.

Perhaps the most interesting tidbit from Richardson's report is that the Lions are not actually among the teams that have expressed interest in Hill, at least not yet. Richardson speculates that the Lions are letting Hill test free agency before deciding if they should try to re-sign him. I'd imagine the Lions do want to bring him back, but perhaps they are resigned to the notion that he is going to land elsewhere.

It certainly isn't surprising that Hill is drawing so much interest from other NFL teams. He has been a solid rotational player for the Lions, and considering he's behind Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley in Detroit, the opportunity is there for teams to sell him on playing time. A raise also wouldn't hurt a team's chances of landing Hill, who may simply end up being a player that the Lions can't afford to fit into their budget.

In addition to Hill, defensive tackles Corey Williams and Andre Fluellen are also set to become free agents for the Lions.
