Scratch Darrius Heyward-Bey off the list of players who could help fill the Detroit Lions' need at wide receiver. The Lions brought him in for a visit last week in hopes of adding him to the roster, but he agreed to a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts on Monday. Here are the details on his deal:
That's a one-year deal for DHB with Indy. Up to $3 million. $1.5 million guaranteed.— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 2, 2013
Heyward-Bey visited the Colts before he stopped by the Lions' facility last week. He then took the weekend to decide on his new team, and he opted to sign with the Colts in the end.
Given that Domenik Hixon also doesn't appear to be an option at this point, the Lions' best bet may be to simply wait until the 2013 NFL Draft to fill their need at wide receiver. It's possible they could draft a wide receiver in the second or third round, and given who is left on the open market, that may be a better bet than signing someone.
