Here is my updated mock draft from March. If you want to check it out, here is a link.
Round 1, pick 5: Eric Fisher, LT, Central Michigan (Last pick: Eric Fisher, LT, Central Michigan)
I'm staying with this pick here because offensive tackle is such a valuable spot and we have to keep Matthew Stafford healthy. It's just a must. Fisher has the skills and tools to become a cornerstone Left Tackle in place of Jeff Backus.
Round 2, pick 4: Cornellius "Tank" Carradine, DE, Florida State (Last: Barrett Jones, T/G/C, Alabama)
Tank Carradine would be a top 15 pick if it wasn't for his torn ACL on his right knee last year at FSU. Tank is an excellent athlete with good footwork but is still progressing his rush moves. I feel like the coaching staff can aid that, though.
Round 3, pick 3: Khaseem Greene, OLB, Rutgers (Last: Khaseem Greene, OLB, Rutgers)
Another pick I'm sticking with is Khaseem Greene. Greene is perfect for us to replace Justin Durant and I beleive that is one our more underrated needs. Khaseem is a good fit in our scheme and is a complete football player. More in depth scouting report here
Round 4, pick COMP: Brian Schwenke, C, California (Last: William Gholston, DE, Michigan State)
I didn't love my William Gholston pick from before but I am in deep love with this pick right here. Brian Schwenke has a big build with good athleticism allowing him to play either guard or center. He can play right away and has good football IQ.
Round 5, pick 4: Aaron Mellette, WR, Elon (Last: Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshal)
Aaron Dobson has moved himself up draft boards into the 2nd and 3rd round so he won't be around in the 5th to snag. Another Aaron is here though. Aaron Mellette is a small school kid but has good height (6'3") and speed (4.45) for an outside guy. He will take some work, but I think he can develop.
Round 6, pick 3: Ryan Otten, TE, San Jose State (Last: T.J. Moe, WR, Missouri)
Ryan Otten is an athletic Tight End who can really catch the football. He has a knack for finding holes in the zone and getting matchups. The Lions could use another TE after the departure of Will Heller and inconsistent play of Brandon Pettigrew.
Round 7, pick 5: Quinn Sharp, K/P, Oklahoma State (Previous: Ryan Allen, P, Louisiana Tech)
I drove myself away from Ryan Allen this time around because of Sharp's versatility. He can literally play punter or kicker for a team and that is very valuable for me as a Lions fan. We know Detroit just signed ex-49er David Akers but Akers was TERRIBLE last year. If he starts to stink up the joint again, I would like to have Sharp to go to.
Round 7, COMP Pick: T.J. Moe, WR, Missouri
I had Moe in the 6th round last mock but I think we can afford to take a chance to nab him here in the 7th. Moe measured in as the best quickness and best strength in the class and is smart. I think he will find his place in a Lions uniform and help us get the offense moving again.
Tell me how my mock #3 went and what you agree/disagree with! Go Lions!
