Dont worry, im even remotely suggesting the Lions take Geno Smith, but I do think that if he falls to 5, then the Lions need to field all calls on him for a team looking to move up and take him. Hopefully an additional 2nd round pick and some additional late rounders come from a scenerio like that.
Personally for this draft, i'd prefer to see mostly offense in the first three rounds. Being that Quarterback is the most important position in football, I'd prefer to see all offensive players on the OL and at WR to help out my franchise QB as much as possible, and bring some pressure off my franchise WR.
The offense is much closer than the defense in every way imaginable. I'd go in Rnd 1: OT, Rnd 2: WR Rnd 2b (if traded down): C (particularly Travis Frederick), and the Rnd 3: OG and then with my 4th and beyond draft defense and depth.
As far as defense is concerned at DE.....for this year, just wing it and go with Willie Young, Jason Jones, and re-sign Lawrence Jackson for a couple years....Draft some depth speed rushing DE's or sign/trade for a veteran and wing it for this year. Worry about DE next offseason.
I wouldn't have a problem with the Lions taking a vertical field strecthing, pass catching TE in round 2 like Tyler Eifert either if he fell into early round 2 to eventualkly replace the ever-so frustrating Pettigrew
The Lions aren't going to fill all of their needs in 1 draft class anyways...so they could use all the help they can get.
