The Detroit Lions addressed their need for help on the offensive line in the third round by taking Kentucky offensive guard Larry Warford. The hope going into the draft was for the Lions to end up with one of the top tackles, giving them the flexibility to potentially move Riley Reiff to guard. That didn't happen, though, and now it looks like Reiff will start at left tackle and Warford will start at right guard.
With this pick, the Lions addressed one of their biggest needs, and they appear to have picked up a third-rounder who could make an immediate impact. That's a big win, and it was really a must for a team coming off of a 4-12 season. Also, considering the Lions lost three-fifths of their starting offensive line from last year, they needed someone with the ability to start early on.
Considering I picked him for the Lions in the second round of the SB Nation writers mock draft, I'm obviously a big fan of this pick. Warford has the potential to start and perform at a high level as a rookie, and his potential in the future is quite high. The Lions needed to improve their interior offensive line, and this pick will go a long way in doing that.
