2013 NFL Draft results: Lions pick Theo Riddick

Harry How

The Detroit Lions have selected Theo Riddick with the 199th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

The Detroit Lions have selected Notre Dame running back Theo Riddick with the 199th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Lions acquired this pick when they made a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, and they used it to add extra depth at running back.

At Notre Dame, Riddick saw time at running back and wide receiver. Last season, he rushed for 917 yards on 190 carries, and he had 5 touchdowns. He also caught 36 passes for 370 yards and 2 touchdowns. Riddick has experience returning kicks as well, although he only had 8 returns last season.

Basically, Reddick is an insurance plan for Reggie Bush. He's of a similar mold in that he can play running back and slot receiver. The fact that he can also return kicks is an added bonus, as the Lions need someone to replace Stefan Logan.

Barring a trade, the Lions will now wrap up the 2013 NFL Draft with the 211th and 245th picks.
