I think its been assumed that he will start because of his draft position, but I am wondering if its possible that Willie Young starts in his place, and Ziggy gets worked in a heavy rotation.
I kind of hope that he earns the starting spot and it isn't just given to him. On the other hand, if there was ever a team where someone with limited experience could step in and start it would be here. Its not like Willie is some experienced veteran.
I was also curious (and bored) so i looked up the pre-draft measureables of Cliff Avril and put them up against Ziggy so here goes:
Size: CA- 6ft 2in 253lbs / EA- 6ft 5in 271lbs Edge: Ziggy by 3 inches and 18 pounds.
40 yard dash: CA- 4.52 / EA- 4.63 Edge: Cliff, but would he run faster than a 4.63 with 18 more pounds on? Cliffs 10 yard split was also a half second faster. 1.50 vs 1.56
20 yard shuttle: CA- 4.31 / EA- 4.26 Edge: YEA ZIGGY! pretty darn quick
3- cone: CA 6.90 / EA- 7.11 Edge: Cliff, but close again considering size difference..and how many times had Ziggy done a 3-cone drill before?
Vertical: CA- 32 1/2 / EA- 34 1/2 Edge: Ziggy with the explosiveness!
Broad Jump: CA- 9ft 9in / EA- 9ft 8in Edge: Avril barely
Bench Press: CA- 27 reps / EA- 21 reps Edge: anyone else surprised Avril got that much? gee wiz thats pretty darn good. Im a little surprised that Ansah didn't do more, considering as a track guy, he probably lifted more for endurance than for power. But who knows what his lifting situation was like before coming to the states.
Overall, Ansah coming in isn't ,far from where cliff was; seems we arent losing much athletically by losing cliff and gaining Ansah . we are also gaining size.
I really can't wait to see him NEXT football season, that will be really telling. But I'm also excited to see him go to work this year!
