Ziggy Ansah keeps statistical goals for rookie season to himself

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Lions rookie Ziggy Ansah is keeping his statistical goals for the 2013 season to himself.

In the months leading up to the NFL season, predictions and guarantees are very common. Many NFL players aren't afraid to make statements that could later come back to bite them, no matter how outlandish they may be.

It's safe to say that Detroit Lions rookie Ziggy Ansah isn't one of those players. He was recently asked about what his goals are for the 2013 season, and he declined to name any specific statistical feats that he's trying to achieve. From the Free Press:

"I’m not trying to put (out any) numbers," Ansah said this week, at a Lions youth football camp at Ford Field. "If I tell you I’m going to get 10 (sacks) and I get nine, what are you going to say?"

It seems that Ansah has already mastered the handling the media part of being an NFL player. Expectations are already high given that he's the No. 5 overall pick, and he doesn't need to add to those expectations by putting a specific number on what he's trying to accomplish in 2013. Instead, he said that he's simply trying to "just be a better player" and improve upon what he did in OTAs.

From a media standpoint, Ansah already sounds like a veteran player.
