hahahahahahahahahahahahaha Sorry, I had to. I just wanted to see how many people I could get to click on this, and then in turn curse my name. Sean, feel free to delete this anytime. Please don't bring the ban hammer down on me.
In all seriousness, the release of Hernandez does bring up an interesting scenario. We have three pass catching TE on the team right now. Droptimus Prime...I mean Pettigrew, Scheffler, and Fauria. We also have Williams to take up the Will Heller type job (although I do miss me some Heller). Is it worth the Lions trying to trade Pettigrew or Scheff to the Pats? Are they even worth anything to anybody besides us?
Tony Scheffler is, IMO, our best TE. Problem is, he's 30 and in NFL terms, starting the back end of his career. He's still a good pass catcher and route runner...but what is he worth? 6th Round pick? Would the Pats pay for a 30 year old with a $2 million salary in the last year of his contract?
Pettigrew, if he could reduce the drops and the fumbles, would be better than Scheffler...problem is, he hasn't been able to. He's 28, not much younger than Scheffler, but younger none the less. Just like Scheffler, he's in the last year of his contract and he's getting $2 million. What is he worth to the Pats? Maybe a 4th or 5th rounder.
Is a 4th-6th round pick really enough for us to put our hopes in Fauria, a rookie? Or, is it a matter of we can either get something for them now, or let them walk and get nothing at the end of the year?
Just putting that out there. Any ideas? Let's play front office!
