Louis Delmas returns to practice, hopes to make preseason debut this week

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Louis Delmas wants to get on the field when the Detroit Lions take on the New England Patriots this week.

Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas finally returned to practice on Monday. He didn't actually take part in the entire session, as he was out there for only about half of the practice, according to Dave Birkett. Then he exited to get his left knee iced while practice rolled on.

After practice, Delmas sounded a lot like he did a couple weeks ago. He once again proclaimed that he is "feeling good," and he made it known that he wants to play on Thursday against the New England Patriots.

Color me skeptical that we'll see him play on Thursday. Last time Delmas said he felt good and wanted to play, he went on to miss nearly the next two weeks of practice. What's more, just last week Delmas pretty much said it was unlikely that he was going to play at all in the preseason. I just don't see how half a practice is going to change that, although I definitely would like to see him play against the Patriots.

In other injury news, quarterback Shaun Hill, wide receiver Calvin Johnson, wide receiver Ryan Broyles, center Leroy Harris, defensive tackle John Drew and cornerback Ross Weaver missed Monday's practice, while defensive end Jason Jones, like Delmas, returned.
