The Lions' Roster Cuts Show That Many Players Never Had a Chance to Make the Team

A lot of guys that played well the preseason, yet still didn't make the team. Some of note: Matt Willis, Jake Scott, some of the backup safeties, and some of the backup DTs.

Probably the worst cuts came with some of the backup DTs outplaying C.J. Mosley clearly & Matt Willis out playing some guys battling for a no. 5 WR spot.

This & cuts around the league just show a couple of things about the NFL:

  1. The NFL is a cold business.
  2. Coaches, scouts, GMs, & owners have their favorites and "their guys"
  3. Some players don't have a chance to make a roster no matter how well they do.
  4. Some players are saved from being cut today, only to be released tomorrow and this week as there will be waiver wire moves.
