Lions training camp injury update: Louis Delmas returns

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

After four days off, Detroit Lions safety Louis Delmas returned to practice on Sunday.

Stop the presses! I have good news about Louis Delmas! The Detroit Lions safety returned to practice on Sunday morning. It was Delmas' first practice since Tuesday, and all the time off seemed to serve him quite well.

With the Lions getting a day off on Monday, Delmas will have a built in day of rest following this practice. It will be interesting to see if he's able to practice on Tuesday or if the Lions opt to hold him out for longer, perhaps in hopes of having him play in the first preseason game next Friday.

In other good injury news, defensive end Willie Young and safety Amari Spievey both returned to practice as well on Sunday. Defensive ends Israel Idonije and Jason Jones and cornerbacks Chris Greenwood and Jonte Green remained out, but at least a few guys were back at it on Sunday.

At linebacker, Travis Lewis missed Sunday's practice. He took first-team reps at left outside linebacker on Saturday, but he wasn't able to take part in Sunday's practice.

In the he's-likely-just-getting-rest department, the Lions gave wide receiver Calvin Johnson the day off. Running back Reggie Bush also likely just got some rest when he was held out of the Lions' team drills on Sunday.

Finally, running back Theo Riddick exited Sunday's practice with what is believed to be a right toe injury. He tried to come back after suffering the injury, but he eventually ended up leaving practice altogether with a trainer.
