To whoever was chatting with me about Victor Cruz' "Calvin Johnson Rule TD" in the Sunday Night Football thread

Forgive me for the error I stated on Sunday when I thought Cruz landed a legit TD. I got to see the Victor Cruz falling & outstretching "touchdown" the other night in full and saw that it should have been ruled as an incompletion. During the game, I was typing so much on here that I only glanced at Cruz while he was making that "TD" catch and thought he landed two feet down after his jump when he only landed one foot down before being tackled. The tackle lead to him to fall backwards and he stretched out to get a touchdown but didn't complete the process of the catch as the ball became dislodged as he hit the ground.

Even Mike Pereira, former NFL VP of Officiating, has said that the play should have been ruled an incompletion.

So anyhow, I got it wrong; forgive me. I thought whoever was mad about the catch was overreacting but it turns out you were correct on that.

But, as I continue to say, I believe the reception touchdown rules should be changed! The "Calvin Johnson" rule should be thrown out. And the rule should now & forever be that if a receiver catches the ball & has control of it when the ball breaks the endzone plane, then it should be ruled as a touchdown plain & simple regardless of whether they are standing upright or diving/falling/being tackled to the ground. This would provide much more parity to current rules in place for RBs/"established runners" into the endzone for touchdowns.
