Happy New Year POD!!
With the coaching search ramping up, I've found myself in a bit of a depression. Maybe it's the old mid-winter depression (is it too early for that?) or maybe it's holiday depression. (I swear Santa hasn't come to my house since I moved out of my parents place. What do I gotta do? "Like" him on facebook or something?? Sheesh) Whatever it is, I found myself in a situation where I honestly do not like anybody as far as coaching options. Seriously.
I kind of just wanna be sedated (Ramones style) until the decision is made, but alas I have to work and unfortunately, my employers don't really see passed out on drugs as very productive. (Though I admit, I haven't actually tried it.)
Anyway, I've seen a few POD members volunteer for the job on these boards and thought this link might brighten some of y'all's day. While it's not American football, It's the other football. An English soccer team a few years back had a vacancy for manager and this is one of the applications received:
(There is a transcript at the bottom which is a bit easier to read than the scanned letters, btw.)
For those of you who don't want to take the time to read it all, the dude essentially applied for the job quoting his "Career Highlights" in EA's Football Manager 2005 (a video game) as his work experience (the only actual experience being with a team of under 11 year olds). I'm sure many of us could put together a pretty good resume using Madden records and stats and for a few, even NFL Head Coach (remember that one?)
If the application wasn't enough to garner at least a smile, the response from the owner is absolutely awesome!! (Kudos to him!)
I know this isn't really Lions or even (American) football related, but I did think it was somewhat relevant to the position some Lions fans are in presently. Hopefully, it's good for a chuckle. (If you're like me right now, you probably could use one.)
