Lions interview Ken Zampese for offensive coordinator job, according to report

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions have reportedly interviewed the Cincinnati Bengals' quarterbacks coach for their offensive coordinator job.

The Detroit Lions didn't have much to say on Monday night about their offensive coordinator search. However, news did leak out about one interview that the Lions conducted. According to Dave Birkett, the Lions spoke with Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese about their offensive coordinator job on Monday.

Zampese has actually been the Bengals' quarterbacks coach since 2003. Before that, he served as an assistant for the St. Louis Rams, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. He was the passing game coordinator for a year in St. Louis, but as far as I can tell, he's never been an actual offensive coordinator anywhere except Northern Arizona University.

What I'm trying to say is that I don't really understand the appeal of Zampese. Andy Dalton hasn't exactly been great from a consistency standpoint, and Zampese has never been a true offensive coordinator in the NFL. His track record just isn't that impressive, so hopefully he's not the only one the Lions are looking at right now for their offensive coordinator job.
