Lions to hire Alan Williams as secondary coach?

USA TODAY Sports

It looks as though the Detroit Lions have selected former Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams to be their secondary coach.

The Detroit Lions have apparently made a decision on their secondary coach job. According to former Minnesota Vikings defensive backs coach Joe Woods, the Lions have decided to hire former Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams to coach their secondary.

Williams was the Vikings' defensive coordinator from 2012-13. Before that, he was the Indianapolis Colts' defensive backs coach from 2002-11, and he was a defensive assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2001. Williams was on the same coaching staff as Jim Caldwell in both Tampa Bay and Indy, and now they're set to reunite again in Detroit.

With Williams in the fold, it appears that all of the major coaching jobs have been filled on defense. The Lions hired Teryl Austin as their defensive coordinator, and they retained Kris Kocurek and Jim Washburn to coach their defensive line. Also, they brought in Bill Sheridan to coach their linebackers, and it looks like they have replaced Marcus Robertson with Williams as their secondary coach.
