This is what happens when they push the draft back you get way to many mock drafts being posted. With that said after reading the news of receiving 2 comp picks and Fanspeak updating their game to provide these picks for use to mock draft i decided to post yet another updated mock. i decided to do it a different way instead of doing five different mocks I just let each round simulate up to the lions selection and then chose the player that was most often left on the board available to select. Some of the names shocked me but consistently they appeared and were available to pick and only once did sammy watkins drop to 10th throughout those five simulations. My picks were as follows:
R1 OT GREG ROBINSON AUBURN
Reasoning: There are no immediate holes on the roster outside of kicker and that definitely is not happening with a first round pick in this lifetime and we used free agency to fill in spots at S, WR, TE only spot left is LB but in all five mocks both Mack and Barr were off the board before we picked. CBS sports has Robinson rated 2nd best prospect in the draft and yes i understand we had a top rated offensive line last year but those were mostly quick passes no developing routes really. I believe if we are to run a saints styled offense then we beef our line up even more with a top rated lineman to give Stafford more time to throw and maybe just maybe if giving more time and not throwing the pass in less than 3 seconds will also help to improve his accuracy.
R2 DT RA’SHEDE HAGEMAN MINNESOTA
Reasoning: This round I was on pins and needles because no matter how unrealistic it may seem due to the numbers he put up at the combine my top choices for 4 of the 5 simulations were Hageman and Brandin Cook, to make matters worse Cook lasted the 5th time up until the Rams selected him right before the lions 2nd round selection. smh
Hageman is the consolation prize here there were a few other choice that could have been made (Benjamin, Abbrederis, or Bucannon) I chose Hageman in light of the Fairley 5th year option decline. This dude is huge 6'6 310 with decent strength for his size (32 bench press) and for those of you that say we have depth already at DT it isn't quality depth there is no guarantee anyone below (mosley) makes the team everyone else is a toss up plus hopefully he will push Fairley this year.
R3 WR MARTAVIS BRYANT CLEMSON
Reasoning: Maybe I'm tripping but something tells me that while yes the Lions are heavily interested in Watkins and will field and weigh out trading up to obtain him but, I think they quietly are plotting on Bryant or maybe I have mancrush on him as a player because of his attributes(6'4" with 4.4 speed) but, he does have similar size to (Johnson) which i think would benefit Stafford. He wouldn't have to come in and be outside receiver right away but with (Tate, Johnson, and Bush/Bell) taking up most of the defenses attention I believe Bryant could put up some interesting numbers. Regardless of who was available in the third (trent murphy, dakota dozier, richburg, jeffcoat) even though I may have over drafted him I selected Bryant each time my reasoning is because ieven if he is our 4th string wr he would play more than a back up guard, a developmental center or a DE that doesn't really fit the style of ends the lions have been targeting.
R4 S AHMAD DIXON BAYLOR
Reasoning: Now even though we just signed Ihedigbo for two years we still are going to need a replacement for him at some point plus Dixon is the 4th rated SS in this class. I was tempted to select keith Mcgill which i think could happen if he isn't selected by this point but elected to go with Dixon because we already have 4 corners with under 3 years experience which honestly didn't get a fair chance to improve under the old regime, Houston is still under contract a couple years and they in talks with Mathis to return so I don't see any room for another young corner at this point.
R4 DE WILL CLARKE WVU
Reasoning: Even though we signed Tapp and it is going to seem like we signed Jones this year to being we only got preseason teases before he got injured and then was totally injured to the point he went to injured reserve Clarke is in the mold of recent DE draft picks (Taylor and Ansah) with these attributes (6'6" 277 with 4.7 speed) which would make our DE rotation even stronger
R4 WR JEFF JANIS SAGINAW VALLEY STATE
Reasoning: once again a reach at receiver by most standards being he is rated mid 5th- early 6th but, my reasoning is we don't have a 5th rounder because of Mike Thomas trade and he wont bethere in the sixth plus with Johnson, Tate and possibly Bryant as top 3 receivers janis has the size and speed to dominate a 4th string corner at (6'3" 219 and runs a 4.4) plus on top of that he is a native of Michigan so what more reasoning is needed maybe he will represent the mitten for the lions kind of like Bell our current Michigander on the roster.
R6 DE LARRY WEBSTER BLOOMSBURG
Reasoning: Ok entering foreign territory now lol so im not going to act like I know much about these last few guys but, I do know we have been linked to Webster so thats part of the reason for the pick and also his size being along the lines of (Taylor, Ansah, Jones, and Clarke) standing 6'6" 252lbs and runs a 4.58 40.
R7 C JAMES STONE TENNESSEE
Reasoning: I just like his name lol sounds like a SOLID (pun intended) blocker and has time to develop behind raiola but is a different beast than raiola being he is 6'4" 306lbs
