Nick Fairley did fall in the draft right into our laps, but since then he has had many inconsistency issues, off the field issues and work ethic problems. Martin Mayhew has declined his fifth year option, but the deadline is not until May 3, 5 days before the draft, so if a trade is for Fairley is good and appealing for us, should we do it?
Nick had 5.5 Sacks last year and that great play against Chicago (thank God for that), but he went missing at times and I am led to believe that most of his sacks were created by Suh. Although Nick is a player with a high ceiling, he will cost us $5.5M and is $1M per sack worth it?
Let's say Nick has a huge year he could demand McCoy, Ngata or potentially what Suh gets. I want us to resign Suh, because he could give us as much as $10M in space, which I think we can carry into next year (that's what Oakland and Jacksonville did). A Suh contract I expect to be $60M over 5 years, so that is $12M a year, if Fairley has a great year and commands anything near that, how much are two DT's worth? Isn't it worth it to over pay upcoming FA's like Defensive Ends or Versatile Outside Linebackers like the FO wants (e.g Von Miller) to give us sacks?
Overall, I feel Fairley is going to have a breakout year and be out of our range, besides we have Suh and Ansah on our front line already, it is not like Jim Schwartz is still relying on his Front 4 tactic, so it will not becoming a pressing need. I think a draft day trade with a team like Dallas, Oakland, Cleveland, St Louis or the Giants could be beneficial to us in the future.
Let me know what you think we should do in the comments or take part in the poll.
