2014 NFL mock draft: Bills select Taylor Lewan

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Buffalo Bills take Taylor Lewan with the ninth pick of the 2014 POD Community Mock Draft.

With the ninth pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the Buffalo Bills select Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan. CLF is serving as the Bills' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

It's a shame the phone lines have been cut for those teams wanting to jump the Detroit Lions for Mike Evans... So with the ninth pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select Taylor Lewan, offensive tackle, University of Michigan.

The Bills' 22nd-ranked offensive line (on PFF) needs help. Their new franchise QB, EJ Manuel, only played 10 games due to injury and was sacked 28 times in those 10 games. The Bills ranked tied for 28th in 2013 with 48 sacks on the season (3 per game), which means that in the six games EJ wasn't able to start, the team gave up an additional 20 sacks to its second- and third-string QBs. This just cannot happen. Furthermore, with a stable of running backs that includes Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller, the Bills' 2013 offense only managed 4.2 yards per carry, down from 5.0 yards per carry in 2012. Lewan brings talent, value and stability to a young, talented Bills offense.

With Lewan at RT and Cordy Glenn at LT, the Bills' offense will thrive in 2014, led by a healthy EJ Manuel.
