2014 NFL mock draft: Raiders select Jace Amaro

Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Spo

The Oakland Raiders take Jace Amaro with the 36th pick of the 2014 POD Community Mock Draft.

With the 36th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2014 NFL mock draft, the Oakland Raiders select Texas Tech tight end Jace Amaro. DrewsLions is serving as the Raiders' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

After going offense and Sammy Watkins with my first pick, I tried to turn my attention to defense. But the more I looked at my board and the more I looked at the Raiders' depth chart, the more needs I continued to see offensively. It feels like the Raiders didn't do much in free agency, but after a closer look, they added LaMarr Woodley, Antonio Smith, Justin Tuck, Tarell Brown and Carlos Rogers on defense. Many of those guys are likely over the hill or close to it, but they fill enough gaps where I feel like I can take a good player here in the second round versus having to pigeonhole a defensive player.

As for Jace Amaro, he's essentially another weapon in the passing attack and gives the Raiders a lot of versatility. Used extensively in the slot at Texas Tech, this athletic tight end is not just a one-trick pony. He is an underrated blocker in addition to his great pass-catching ability. He should fit right in with what the new-look Raiders want to do on offense.
