So yesterday I was taking a look at the 2013 NFL mock draft database, a collection of 44 different mocks and who each one thought the Lions would end up selecting in the draft. In looking over the array of predictions that were made, almost every expert keyed in on the specific positions of need for the Lions, but only 5 of those mocks included the selection of either Ziggy Ansah or Larry Warford.
SB Nation's own Matthew Fairburn predicted the Ansah selection at #5 overall, along with Pat Kirwan at CBS Sports, Jeff Risdon at Detroit Lions Draft, and Nik Edlund at Draft Season. Matt Falk, also at Draft Season, had the Lions selecting Damontre Moore, DE from Texas A&M, in the 1st round but he also had them taking Larry Warford in the 2nd. Only one other mocker had the Lions taking a Guard in one of the first two rounds. Steven Lourie at Football Fan Spot had us taking OG Chance Warmack in the 1st, and DE Tank Carradine in the 2nd.
So, after taking a look at least year's mocks, I thought I'd see who these guys have the Lions selecting this year. And there is an overwhelming consensus. Multiple players denotes multi-round mock.
Fairburn: CB Justin Gilbert / WR Allen Robinson
Kirwan: CB Justin Gilbert
Risdon: TE Eric Ebron / CB Pierre Desir / WR Jarvis Landry
Edlund: CB Justin Gilbert / WR Jarvis Landry / S Ed Reynolds
Falk: CB Justin Gilbert
4 out of the 5 mockers who were right last year have us taking Justin Gilbert in the 1st round. I did not expect to see that kind of unity.
A few other interesting notes:
1) WR is addressed in each of the 3 mocks that were multi-round.
2) WR Jarvis Landry shows up twice here, and in two different rounds.
3) If you are wondering who Steven Lourie has the Lions taking this year, it's Sammy Watkins.
