2014 NFL Draft results: Lions pick Larry Webster

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions have selected Larry Webster with the 136th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft.

With their fifth pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and the 136th overall selection, the Detroit Lions have selected Bloomsburg defensive end Larry Webster. This was the Lions' second compensatory pick in the fourth round.

Webster was actually one of the first players to visit the Lions in the lead-up to the draft. The son of former NFL defensive end Larry Webster, the defensive end from Bloomsburg is a former basketball player. He only played two years of college football, and he had 12.5 sacks in 2013 and 13.5 sacks last year. In those two years, he recorded 88 total tackles, 31.0 tackles for loss, 1 interception, 2 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.

Webster may be raw as a football player, but he's quite gifted as an athlete. He's 6'6 and 252 pounds, and he ran a 4.58 40-yard dash at the combine. Many teams actually looked at him as a tight end, but the Lions are planning to play him at defensive end. He'll add some depth at that position as a developmental player, and I suppose he could always move over to the offensive side of the ball later on if things don't work out at defensive end.
