T Lewis ( OLB+ )
What does P O D think ?
I know it is crazy early. But some cuts will probably start to happen this week.
The Houston situation at CB is a hot spot. If he can't go, or if the Lions feel he has seen better days, then, I don't know what his contract situation is, but maybe they just trade him ( 5th ? ) to make room for a quality FA signing, or to make room for another developmental CB to stick, like J Green.
The CB position is wide open. However, I think we have upgraded our coverage in the back seven with Van Noy and changes to our S position. Mathis I think has found a home for as long as his legs hold up. Greenwood I think will stick. He played well when given a chance late last year and has the athletic profile that this staff loves. Vaughn has quality experience. I see Lawson taking Bentley's spot. He is stronger and more physical and can play all four STs.
The only UDFA's I have making the team are Lucas at OT and Franklin at QB. Lucas has potential and fills a need for depth at OT. It seems crazy but Orlovsky does now have a decent resume as a backup QB and has won games for our new HC. Franklin has potential, can run, and will carry the clipboard as an inactive on gamedays.
I disagree that Swanson will provide quality depth at G. He is a pure C prospect like Raiola was who will still take up a roster spot. So we probably will still need an experienced FA tackle/guard depth signing. Raiola sticks for another year and maybe two because he still has quick feet and excellent experience. Playing alongside quality guards will help Raiola last a little while longer.
I hope to God that Broyles can finally stay healthy. He could still become a valuable piece of the puzzle at WR. Ogletree has too much talent and experience to lose out on a spot. Ross provides WR depth and won the KR job last year.
All in all - there is talent on this team !
It is tough though because a lot of teams in the NFC got better too. The Eagles, Rams, Panthers, Buccaneers, Bears,Vikings, and Cardinals all got better. To say nothing of the Packers, Niners, Saints, and Seahawks. The Falcons, Cowboys, Giants, and Skins are not bad teams either.
