I say yes. Over the past few years, they assembled a nice collection of young talent on both offense and defense. The Lions have the most talent on their roster since the mid 90's when they had guys like Barry Sanders, Herman Moore, Johnny Morton, Lomas Brown, Robert Porcher, Chris Speilman and Bennie Blades. I always thought that Wayne Fontes never got maximum production out of those guys. I honestly felt the Lions could have gone to the big game with that roster but inconsistent QB play and questionable coaching always came back to haunt them. The 2014 Lions have a very young and talented roster and Jim Schwartz couldn't get them over that proverbial hump much like Fontes couldn't. It's time for Matthew Stafford to step up to the plate and show why he was taken first overall back in 2009. He broke just all about all of Bobby Layne's passing records and now he needs to get a couple title's like Layne has (just don't start drinking, Matt). He is surrounded by weapons on offense, has a nice big offensive line to protect him and he doesn't need to be like Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, just protect the ball, make good throws and let your weapons do their thing.
The Lions are much improved on defense as well. They have the best DT combo in the game, can we keep them for the rest of their careers? The Linebackers will be improved with the addition of Kyle Van Noy and while a lot of you wanted them to take a cornerback with the top pick, I think Martin Mayhew likes the young guys he drafted over the last couple of years and thinks they're ready to step up and play to their potential. Jim Caldwell, Joe Lombardi and others were brought in to win big and win now. I honestly think the Lions have the pieces to go all the way, but will they? What do you all think?
