This might seem like a simple question, but i have heard many different definitions. I have heard people say that a #1 is a bonafide star, and that there are only 10 or so "true" #1 receivers in the league. I have had others say that a #1 receiver is simply just the best receiver on a team.
My thought is that the best 32 receivers in the game can be considered #1 receivers. In theory, if the league was split somewhat evenly, the best 32 receivers would not be on the same team. With that thought, these guys would certainly be the best on their team, and carry the tag of being a #1 receiver.
Why do I bring this up? I had a debate with a friend of mine about this very thought and I wanted the community of PoD to weigh in. Also, because of my opinion on the definition of the term, I would actually consider Golden Tate in the top 32 of receivers in the NFL today. With that thought and my definition, he would actually be a #1 receiver by my definition and he would be the #1 guy on some teams based on their construction.
What is everyones definition of a #1 receiver?
I look forward to the responses!
