TE Jacob Maxwell (Louisiana-Lafayette) - Undrafted free agent
After drafting Eric Ebron in the first round, the Detroit Lions had more than enough tight ends on their roster. However, they released Matt Veldman and moved Michael Williams to offensive tackle following the draft, creating a spot for extra depth at tight end. That spot was filled with the signing of undrafted free agent Jacob Maxwell.
Height: 6-foot-4 | Weight: 243 pounds

2011: 3 catches, 36 yards
2012: 19 catches, 185 yards, 4 TD, 1 carry, 18 yards
2013: 12 catches, 158 yards, 2 TD
Maxwell was a horticulture major ("the art, science, technology, and business involved in plant cultivation") at Louisiana-Lafayette.
What the experts are saying
The 6-foot-4, 249-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds at his campus Pro Day workout and had a 38.5-inch vertical leap with a 10-7 broad jump.
He caught 12 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns last season.
Outlook for 2014
The Lions are pretty stacked at tight end with Eric Ebron, Brandon Pettigrew and Joseph Fauria. Barring an injury, it's tough to see Maxwell factoring into the discussion at that position for the 53-man roster. In all likelihood, he will have to make the practice squad if he wants to stick around this year.
