Seahawks Tackling training Video

I think this is brilliant on so many levels. I know a lot of fans love the big monster hits but what these coaches are teaching is forward thinking on multiple levels.

First, it is safer for their own players. The NFL season is hard to survive injury free. Implementing any system of tackling that tries to reduce injuries on your defensive players is clearly a good idea.

Second, the NFL wants the big hits out of the game. If you remove some of those NFL this year's buzz word "big hit penalties" you can get more penalties in other areas (say Illegal contact down field!!!) and still come out even, possibly even ahead.

Third, lets face it. The NFL and football on all levels is a great game but it needs young players coming up to play the game. Having the Super Bowl winning coach share this kind of safe tackling instructional video to the entire world of football is GREAT for the game. It can show all players how to "do it the right way" as it were and make the game safer for everyone.

Fourth, think back to last year and the Hawks games you watched. I remember thinking something was different about their defense. I couldn't put my finger on it until I saw this video. They were making hard strong tackles but never seemed to hurt themselves in the process.I never put the clean strong Rugby tackle into the equation.

Finally, We all know the NFL is a league of inches and coaches are loathe to give up even the smallest advantage willingly. For the Seahawks, their owner, their FO and coaches to release this kind of information to the world is commendable. Class orginization.

BTW, does anyone have any information on how many defensive injuries the Hawks suffered last year? Also, how that compared to the rest of the league?
