Joique Bell says he's 'feeling 100 percent'

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell, who has been dealing with a knee injury, said on Tuesday that he is "feeling 100 percent."

Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell was unable to take part in the team's OTAs and mandatory minicamp because of a knee injury. His absence was precautionary more than anything, but it was still a bit concerning that he had an injury related to the tendinitis he dealt with last season.

The good news is that Bell looks like he will in fact be ready to go when training camp begins later this month. That was the plan all along, and MLive reports that Bell was cleared to run at full speed a couple weeks after the Lions' offseason training program came to an end. Also, Bell said on Tuesday that he is "feeling 100 percent" healthy.

Interestingly enough, Bell has been doing some MMA-style training this offseason to get ready for the 2014 season. He may not have been on the field in May and June because of his injury, but he has been working hard off the field to stay in shape. From MLive:

"It's been great so far," Bell said. "They're really monitoring, as far as meal plan, cardio, explosiveness and stamina. We're working on a variety of different things, switching it up, doing MMA (training), working out just about every muscle in the body, which is very tiring.

"We're really getting after it, really attacking my body without putting a lot of stress on my joints."

Bell, who got a new three-year deal in March, figures to play an important role in the Lions' backfield with Reggie Bush this season. Bell had nearly 1,200 yards from scrimmage last year, and with Joe Lombardi taking over the offense, he could get even more work in 2014.
