Kellen Moore has never played a down in the NFL

Lately there has been a lot of attention surrounding Kellen Moore after his stellar performance against the Cleveland Browns . His performance against the Oakland Raiders was not nearly as graceful. He was provided a chance to play a series with the 2nd team offense. However I felt like it was a trap move more than a opportunity. There are two reasons I believe it was a trap move as opposed to a actual opportunity. The first is because no opportunity was presented in practice to gel with the 2nd team. The second is because oakland came out with first team mismatches because they were more interested in winning the game than evaluating talent. However a great quarterback learns to make plays when the situation dictates that he will not.

Now let's get down to business of what this post is truly about. Everytime I read a post about Kellen Moore there is always one or 2 people who worry about him being a back up because he has never played a down in the NFL. I am always confused by this statement. It always takes me back to when I was 18 and wanted to get a loan for my first car. I was told I couldn't because I didn't have any credit. I would wonder how I was to gain credit when nobody around would give me credit because I didn't have credit. I hope some of you understand what I am saying. I just watched to preseason games where the backups have never played a down in the NFL and they are both 2nd stringers. In both cases many fans are hoping they will start soon.

I guess the point to my story is everybody who ever joins the nfl has never played a down until they do. Those who want to use this as a reasoning to not support a player or position battle needs to realize somewhere at some point a player needs to be given a opportunity to show there skills on the field. There are so many example's of players given this opportunity and making the best of it. Tom Brady and Bret Favre are a couple that come to mind.

I am know way saying that Kellen Moore is the next Bret Favre or Tom Brady. I'm not even talking about a starting roll but a backup roll. After all let's say that Matthew Stafford does get hurt. ( Knock on wood ) What will we get with the 30 th ranked backup in the NFL named Dan Orlovsky ? Based on what he has shown in the NFL we probably won't do so well. However let's say Kellen Moore had to play. Then what would we get ? I really can't say because he has never played a down in a NFL regular season game . However I would feel more comfortable with the hope of what he could be as opposed to what I know I will see with the current backup.
