Lions' Busy Week In Review

This past week has been an eventful one for the Lions’ organization, both on and off the field. There were a bunch of headlines and moves for Lions fans to be very excited about. The 2015 Rookie Mini Camp started and finished this week, and many critical offseason acquisitions were made.

The Lions have now signed all their 2015 draft picks, and for the most part saw them all perform a little on the field this week. Mini camp is just as much the coaches evaluating players, as it is the players getting a feel for the organization and their future teammates. As far as Jim Caldwell was concerned, he liked what he saw. He was impressed with the young guys’ strong work ethics and their ability to learn; he told the media shortly after the final day of mini camp. This week was a good start for the Lions 2015-2016 season on the field.

While some of the team was busy on the field, the front office was working hard as always. The Lions brought in a few more free agents this week, most notably, Lance Moore and Corey Wootton. Lance Moore, although known for his time in New Orleans, played his last season in Pittsburg. His productivity last season has some fans questioning why the Lions brought him in. Moore had just 14 receptions last season for less than 200 yards for the Steelers. Moore had a considerable career with the Saints but has me questioning what he has left in the tank for he 2015-2016 season. Regardless, the addition of Moore and a few other younger receivers will improve the depth of the Lions at that position. The Lions need a good number three and four receiver behind Tate and Johnson. The extra depth will be helpful and will increase competition this offseason. The team made similar moves in the secondary. With Ihedigbo potentially holding out it is opening up chances for more players in the defensive end. Look for a very competitive offseason, which will only help the Lions’ defense improve upon last year.
