With the third pick in the POD Community Mock Draft, the San Diego Chargers have selected DeForest Buckner. Lead Hunter is the acting general manager for Chargers. The reasoning for the pick is below:
The San Diego Chargers three biggest needs are safety (due to the loss of Eric Weddle), offensive tackle and defensive line. I ranked the top three players that fit this pick. Laremy Tunsil, Jalen Ramsey and Buckner. As luck would have it, the first two picks made it easy for me. The Chargers select DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon.
CBS Sports says Buckner looks the part of a DE in a 3-4 scheme with a huge wing span and a tall frame with room to add weight. Buckner played all along the defensive line for Oregon in multiple fronts, making him versatile. He's a quiet guy off the field but brings it on every play when on the field. Buckner will need to work on his pass rushing moves and snap anticipation but with good coaching these two areas can be improved. San Diego signed NT Brandon Mebane from Seattle as a run stuffer and putting Buckner opposite standout Corey Liuget should have a big impact on the defensive line for the Chargers.
