With the 12th pick in the Pride Of Detroit Community Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints select defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins. Lionsfan121589 is the acting manager for the Saints. The rationale for the pick is listed below:
I thought I was drafting for the Cleveland Browns when I looked at the depth chart the Saints had on defense, it was that barren. Any position on defense could have been selected and it would help this team immediately. After the departure of Santa Claus (Rob) Ryan the Saints are moving back to a 4-3 defensive front and this is where Sheldon Rankins fits in perfectly. Rankins is an explosive player who racked up 26.5 tackles for loss and 14 sacks over his junior and senior seasons. He plays with both power and finesse and can play some defensive end in multiple fronts if the Saints choose to do that. The knock on Rankins is he may be a bit small for the position but if the NFL has proved anything it's that size isn't the only criteria to be an impact player. Sheldon Rankins will be an impact player for the Saints who desperately need one. This selection upgrades the defense for New Orleans which is all you can ask for from a franchise that was historically inept in 2015.
