The solution for the Lions in my opinion is Michael Vick. Why Vick?

* Rest assured the Lions would have one of the top three running games in the NFL next season with Vick under center.
* Vick would help the defense because of ball control and his unusual propensity to keep the chains moving.
* Most importantly for the Lions, Vick is "recession-proof" — he would sell out Ford Field.

The Detroit Lions will hold a press conference Monday, April 20 at 12:30 p.m. inside Dunham’s Sports in Madison Heights to unveil the team’s comprehensive new brand that includes a new logo, new uniforms and other branding elements. Lions President Tom Lewand will lead in the announcement of the Lions’ new brand.

Lions K Jason Hanson, WR Calvin Johnson, RB Kevin Smith, C Dominic Raiola, and LB Ernie Sims will participate in the introduction of the team’s new uniforms to the public.

Emceeing Monday’s event is Jay Towers who is a morning host for the Lions’ flagship station, 97.1 the Ticket, and a broadcaster for WJBK-TV FOX 2.

My personal opion I think the Lions draft order should be as such.
1. OT- Jason Smith- Baylor
20. QB- Mark Sanchez- USC
33. ILB- James Laurnitius- Ohio State
65. TE- James Casey- Rice
82. SS- Nic Harris- Oklamhoma

I have a funny feeling that Mr. Sanchez is gonna drop down the board as did Brady Quinn a couple yrs ago. If he does I feel we should solidifye our front line first and foremost ereguardless of anything our line is horrible but if we can get a decent tackle here i think that would help greatly. Having a good O-line is key in the NFL along with having a good defense as we have all seen defenses win championship's.(Pitt) If Mark Sanchez doesn't fall then that is fine to then go after that Peria Jerry or Mike Johnson in the 33rd pick and grab up Ray Maualuga @ 20. I am sure there is a ton of different looks we could all agree with but the biggest mistake in my mind would be takin a qb #1. I just don't like the idea of it not saying that Matt Stafford is bad, hell I liked him in college he did well at Georgia. But I just don't want to see them go that direction I would prefer them to take Jason Smith. Or even better yet why not take that stud out of Oklahoma the Guard Duke Robinson with the 20th pick along with Smith then it doesn't matter if we have a crappy qb he would have all the time in the world. My point is, is that the game is won up front and thats why we suck so bad the past ten yrs. Ty for reading my opion

"The experiment to throw him in there right now wouldn’t be fair to him at this point," Colletto said.

Why?

"Well, he’s not ready to do that yet," Colletto said. "I’m not going to embarrass the kid just to prove a point to somebody else."

OMG...Our (Detroits) Defense sucks!!!! Instead of running the West-Coast or the Tampa Bay defense....why dont we hire a GREAT Defense coordinator to make a DETROIT DEFENSE...then get some FAST Tacklers!!!!

(cheerfully stolen from a gene wojciechowski colum over at espn.com, because it's priceless....(

17: The most underpaid person in the NFL is …

Whoever had to write Millen's bio in the 2008 Lions media guide. Millen probably gave the author a choice: Scrub the Ford Field roof with a toothbrush or write the bio.

Excerpts from the bio:

• For Lions President and CEO Matt Millen, success in the National Football League is simple: "The team that wins the Super Bowl is successful and the other 31 teams are not."

(Well, isn't that convenient logic. So Millen is saying that the Lions' 7-9, nonplayoff 2007 season was the equivalent of the Patriots' 18-1 record -- all because neither team won the Super Bowl? Uh, Matt, Lions fans would eat artificial turf if you'd guarantee them a Super Bowl loss. These people haven't seen the Lions in the playoffs since 1999, and haven't seen them win a postseason game since 1991.)

• Millen also believes that no team can achieve that success without the proper leadership from its head coach …

(He should know; he hired three of them in his first six years.)

• … and that is why the decision to hire Rod Marinelli in 2006 may prove to be the very best move Millen has made during his tenure as team president.

(Or not. The author left some wiggle room there.)

• During the Lions' head coaching search, Marinelli distinguished himself as the type of individual Millen believed was clearly needed to lead the Lions.

(Millen to Marinelli during interview process: "What type of individual are you?"

Marinelli to Millen: "The type who believes I'm clearly needed to lead the Lions."

Millen to Marinelli: "You have distinguished yourself.")

• Millen saw in Marinelli a head coach who would emphasize the game's vital elements, including what Marinelli refers to as the "non-talented characteristics" that players must possess in order to be successful in the NFL. Since then, Millen and Marinelli have worked in concert to formulate a roster of players who embody the "football character" qualities Marinelli adamantly deems are necessary for success in the NFL.

(Seriously, $100 to anyone who can tell me what the hell they're talking about.)
