Pre-Game Trash Talk: Roy Williams Style

With Denver coming to town on Sunday, it means that Dre' Bly will be returning to Detroit for the first time since being traded in the offseason.  Bly left in what seemed to be a negative way as he really was viewed by many as a "cancer" in the locker room.  Regardless, the players still had fun with him while he was here, and everything seems to be smooth in that regard.

When it comes to the football field, though, Roy Williams is having some fun with Bly in the form of some good ol' fashioned trash talk.  It should be no surprise that this trash talk is coming from Roy Williams as he likes to open his mouth, but it is still funny to read.  Take a look:

"Dre is not a hitter, period," Williams said with a smile. "Dre is a no-hitter. Isn't that term in baseball, a no-hitter? He's a no-hitter."

Because Bly and Williams faced each other in practice for years, there may be some question as to who has the advantage Sunday. But Williams didn't have a doubt.

"Of course I have the advantage," he said. "I know what I'm doing (on my route), he doesn't."

Williams even quantified his hypothetical advantage -- and again poked fun at Bly's tackling.

"I was to run 10 routes on Dre, it'd probably be 60-40, advantage me," Williams said. "But as far as if Kevin Jones ran at him, 10 out of 10 times Dre is going to miss the tackle."

You can tell that all of this trash-talking is in good fun, but it won't stop once the game is here.
Williams' verbal strike against Bly may have just been a preemptive measure, since he expects a war of words Sunday.

"There's going to be trash talking all day," Williams said. "That's what Dre does. He's gonna talk trash to the fans, he's gonna talk trash to us. He'll talk trash to the refs. That's just the way Dre plays.

It'll be interesting to see the match-ups on Sunday.  If Roy is matched against Dre' Bly, I would expect to see a lot of jawing between the two.  Hopefully Williams can talk trash with his mouth and his play, though, as it would be nice to see him score against the former Lion.
