Around SBN: Bills must alter strategy to make offense work

Detroit is on the Clock

The 2007 SB Nation Mock Draft got underway today as Silver and Black Pride picked quarterback JaMarcus Russell for the Oakland Raiders.  Head on over to Field Gulls for continuous updates of the draft.

The Lions are now on the clock, so stay tuned for a pick.  It'll probably be announced later tonight.

Thomas is the boring pick.
Let's live little and go with Quinn or C. Johnson. This frachise has nothing to lose, might as well go for the, um, the long bomb. Remember, you're Matt Millen so another high profile bust could spell your doom, but most likely it would not so disregard that comment.

Trade down or take Johnson!
You can grab a QB in the second round!

I'm leaning that way
Trading down is first priority, but if that doesn't happen, I'm really starting to lean towards C.J.

No trades allow in this draft
If you can't trade it, go for an impact player.

Trades are allowed
I'm trying to swing a deal right now as that's the best option.  If that doesn't happen, which is likely right now, I'm going to take either Joe Thomas or Calvin Johnson.  Now that I've had to think about it I've realized how hard this is.  You go the safer route and take Thomas to build your o-line around or you go and get Johnson who is the best player in this draft bar none.

My bad.
I thought you couldn't trade, but it's better that you can. If Detriot hadn't botched so many receiver picks in the past, Johnson would be a no brainer at #2. We can't let the past dictate this draft. That's what we did last year with Leinart and now we still need a QB (granted Sims did end up being a solid pick).  I'd say you're doing the best thing by shopping the pick, if you don't get a reasonable offer take the playmaker.
