Kitna on Return to Vikings Game: "It was a miracle."

By far, the hero of the Vikings game on Sunday had to be quarterback Jon Kitna.  He was knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a concussion, yet somehow managed to make a return in the fourth quarter that helped the Lions achieve victory.  Usually with a concussion -- depending on the severity -- it's a couple days before a player can fully get back to the football field simply because he's usually out of it.  With Kitna, though, it was only an hour or two before his triumphant return, although he still isn't sure how it happened much like the rest of us.

"I've never felt anything like that, and for it to clear up and go right back to as normal as I can be, is nothing short of a miracle," Kitna said. "I just definitely feel the hand of God. That's all it was. You can't explain it.

"I have no headaches, no symptoms, no lingering effects. But that was the worst my head has ever felt, and the worse my memory was in the second quarter. Yet, after halftime there was nothing."

"I was out of it. I didn't know anything. I lost coherence," Kitna said. "It's one of those things, you shouldn't even been able to go back in the game, but it went back to normal and cleared up like it never happened."

It was one thing for Kitna to just make a return to the game, but he actually played well.  He scrambled for runs and made the passes necessary to lead the Lions to a victory.

Even with the concussion going away during the game, you would imagine that he would still be feeling the effects of it the day after.  Right?  Well, actually Kitna still feels like nothing even happened.  I've never heard of a concussion going away in the matter of an hour or so and not doing anything after that, but hey, whatever.  Detroit ended up getting a win out of it and now have a 2-0 record.  All I can say is big ups to Kitna for coming back in the game to help get to that record.

don't know much about concussions....
....except maybe I got one tonight when a crowd surfer at the Megadeth show landed on my head, but I managed to drive home from Milwaukee to Madison (think....Pine Knob to the UM campus?) without killing myself.....

it's gonna hurt in the morning, but as far as going from feeling totally messed up to reasonably coherent/capable of driving 90 miles in the space of 2 hours, consider tonight my own first hand experience....
