Pacman Jones Will Not Be a Lion

Titans cornerback and noted troublemaker Adam "Pacman" Jones is hoping to play in the NFL again this year after being suspended for the 2007 season. If he does in fact get reinstated, then he will be taking the field somewhere other than Tennessee. Rumors have been spreading lately about the Titans and Dallas Cowboys engaging in trade talks about Pacman Jones, and now it seems that they may be more than just rumors.

The Dallas Morning News, citing an unnamed source, reported Friday that Dallas and Tennessee have held preliminary talks about a trade. The source told the newspaper that the Titans have acknowledged a trade is the best way for Tennessee to turn the page on its troubled player [Pacman Jones].

According to Jones' agent, the Cowboys aren't the only team looking at Pacman as the Patriots and get this, the Lions may also have interest in the cornerback.

Later Friday, Arora [Jones' agent] told ESPN's Ed Werder that it's his understanding the Cowboys, the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions are interested in Jones. Asked Jones' preference of a future team, Arora said, "Every kid grows up wanting to play for the Dallas Cowboys."

For some reason, Detroit has always seemed to pop up in Pacman Jones trade rumors, and Jones' agent definitely brought them fully into the picture. With the Lions being named as a team with interest in Pacman (they do have a need at cornerback), Matt Millen made sure to diffuse all rumors immediately.

The Titans have been shopping Jones in an attempt to trade him and have contacted the Lions -- among other teams. The Lions will not pursue Jones, team president Matt Millen said Friday afternoon after Internet reports surfaced that the Lions are one of the teams interested in acquiring Jones.

"We've talked about it, but for a lot of reasons, we aren't going to try to get him," Millen said. "He has a lot of talent. We wish him well."

What Millen meant by "for a lot of reasons" is that his off-the-field issues are too much of a problem for Jones to become a Detroit Lion. Rod Marinelli is all about character (just ask Shaun Rogers), and I can't even imagine how he and Pacman Jones would get along after one issue came about. On top of that, the very fact that another legal issue could leave him suspended or out of the game for good really made the Lions lose interest quickly. The risk just isn't high enough for the reward in their eyes. Jones has a ton of talent and would greatly help the Lions at cornerback. But sometimes character comes first, and in this case, it did for the Lions.

Rest easy, Detroit-area strip clubs, the Pacman isn't going to come make it rain anytime soon unless he is here visiting.
