Wednesday Notes: Lions Sign Gilbert Gardner

The Lions have signed linebacker Gilbert Gardner to a one-year deal. Gardner played for the Titans last season after being a member of the Colts for the first part of his career. Gardner sounds like he will be a great special teams player, but can step in to play at linebacker if needed.
Former Lions cornerback Fernando Bryant signed with the New England Patriots.
Another former Lion, safety Terrence Holt, signed with the Carolina Panthers.
According to Champ Bailey, the Lions didn't use his brother, Boss Bailey, right when he was in Detroit.
Jim Colletto hinted at why Kevin Jones was released by saying that it was just too much of a gamble to keep him around when he was still recovering from an injury. Colletto also said that the Lions appear to be leaning toward selecting a running back in the first-round of next month's draft. According to him, drafting an offensive tackle or addressing needs on defensive also are legitimate options.
Despite many mock drafts having the Lions drafting an outside linebacker in the first-round, Tom Kowalski doesn't see that as a position that ranks very high on the Lions' draft board.
