It was only a matter of time until Ernie Sims signed with the Lions and became the final player to report to training camp. The last five picks of the draft for the Lions signed on Thursday. Second-round pick Daniel Bullocks agreed to a contract Thursday night, but didn't get it signed in time to join training camp on its opening day. Bullocks made his deal official Friday night, and was on the practice field Saturday morning. The most important player to get into camp was Ernie Sims. Sims is the Lions first-round pick and the ninth overall in the draft. Negotiations were happening, but the two sides weren't that close in reaching a deal yesterday.
Today, it was announced that a deal was in-place and signed by Sims. The deal runs five-years (additional information was not disclosed). This is good news for the Lions because the longer a player, especially a rookie, goes without being able to attend training camp, the harder it'll be to catch him up down the road. Sims will be in camp for the Sunday morning practice session. With Sims signing and attending camp, the entire roster has now reported.
NOTES FROM DAY 2 OF TRAINING CAMP
- Cornerback Stanley Wilson was removed from the Physically Unable to Perform list as he participated in both practice sessions. Now, only five players currently are still on the list (Bailey, Campbell, Hopson, Lehman and Vines).
- Last year's second-round pick for the Lions, defensive tackle Shaun Cody, sat out the afternoon practice session after suffering a mild sprain in the morning.
- Since both practices were on the outdoor fields yesterday, a few players needed an IV and many others had cramps. The temperature was in the 90's yesterday and the next few days are supposed to be just as hot.
