Recap of Tuesday's Practices

It's already Wednesday, which means that the work week is half way done, and also that the second preseason game of the year is only two days away.  Let's take a look at some notes from yesterday's workouts.

  • Tuesday was the final day of practice under the two-a-days format.  Today and tomorrow will have watered-down practices of sort, and then next week will shift into a regular season format.  With the regular season format, the third preseason game in Oakland will be treated like an actual game in regards to the scheduled routine.

  • The mystery of who the second string quarterback is continued on Tuesday when Dan Orlovsky took over the backup position.  Josh McCown had been taking reps as the backup on Monday, but that only lasted a day before Orlovsky switched in.  At this point it would seem that Jon Kitna's backup could go either way between McCown and Orlovsky.  It may just take one outshining the other in a single practice or preseason game to secure the spot as the #2 QB.

  • There were some players other than the usual that missed practice because of injury yesterday.  Ross Verba sat out because he woke up sore before heading to the training facility.  Boss Bailey was held out of workouts as a precautionary reason.  If you remember back a few weeks, Bailey was one of the players that was on the PUP list.  Finally, Charles Rogers left the morning practice with a sore knee, but said it wasn't serious.
