Defensive tackle Shaun Rogers left the morning session of practice on Monday after injuring his shoulder. The injury was caused when he fell on it in what would appear to have been a bad landing. After a MRI, the Lions determined that the injury wasn't too severe, but he will be listed as week-to-week. Depending on the length of time it takes for Rogers' shoulder to heal will determine when he can re-join practice. Some say he could miss the first two preseason games, so it'll just come down to how fast the process takes to get back to 100%.
NOTES FROM DAY 5 OF TRAINING CAMP
- Although the temperature was much hotter around the state on Tuesday, it was actually a little cooler in Allen Park. Both the morning and afternoon sessions of practice were held on the outdoor fields. The heat index was around 107-degrees during the afternoon session, which is a big difference compared to the 118-degree heat index from Monday.
- As earlier mentioned, Shaun Rogers obviously missed practice as he nurses a shoulder injury. He wasn't the only one. Shaun Cody, Jon McGraw, and James Hall all missed the morning and afternoon sessions of practice. Fernando Bryant also missed the morning session, but returned for the afternoon workout. Boss Bailey practiced in the morning, but didn't participate in the afternoon as scheduled.
Shaun Rogers is kind of week-to-week right now. It's a sprain - a sprain in his shoulder. Jon McGraw has some knee soreness right now; they're looking at him to make sure everything is okay. Boss, we're taking him just one day at a time; one practice a day, that's all we're doing. He's working in the 7-on-7 (drills). We're just trying to be smart with it and work him in. Shaun Cody is making good progress. He's probably a day or so away and he's running pretty good right now. Other than that, I think we're doing okay. James Hall still has (a hamstring injury); he's getting some work but we just want to be smart with that. - Starting right tackle Rex Tucker was injured during the afternoon session of practice. He appeared to have sprained his knee, and will have a MRI to see the severity of the injury. He was carted off the field, just as Rogers, but looked to be in a lot of pain where Rogers just did it for a comfort issue. More on Tucker when the results of the MRI come back.
- The tentative outline for the Black & Blue Scrimmage this Saturday was announced. At 5:00 p.m. the gates to Ford Field will open and an autograph signing of many Lions alumni, including Barry Sanders, will begin and go on until 6:00 p.m. At approximately 6:15 p.m. the actual Lions practice will begin. Make sure to their early to get a good seat.
Just a small note to pass along from today's workout... The afternoon session of special teams practice was cancelled, making this the first day since training camp began to only have one session. It's good to get the players a much-needed break since this weather is so hot. The Lions will get back to their normal two-a-days schedule again tomorrow.
