Free FM 97.1 Becomes WXYT-FM

WKRK-FM, better known as Free FM 97.1, is changing. The radio station that is the place to find the Lions on Sundays (and that one Thursday in November) will now go by the name WXYT-FM. It still is 97.1, but the call letters have changed to reflect the new format. 1270 WXYT-AM is now going to be simulcasted on 97.1 WXYT-FM. If you're a fan of WXYT, don't worry about any major changes for the time being. The show lineup is still the same except the morning drive from 6-10 a.m. will no longer be Mike and Mike in the Morning. Instead, it'll be Jeff Deminski and Bill Doyle, who come over from Free FM.

The change went into effect earlier this week, and I must say, it is nice to be able to listen to WXYT on FM. The reception is much better and the sound clarity is definitely noticeable in a good way.

How exactly does this affect the Lions? Well, it really shouldn't at all. I know Free FM was the main radio station for the Lions on gameday, but now it'll simply be WXYT-FM. Other than the name change, I wouldn't expect anything drastic to be different.

In case you're wondering, below is the updated schedule for WXYT-AM and FM.

6 a.m.-10 a.m. Deminski and Doyle -- Jeff Deminski and Bill Doyle
10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Big Show -- Scott Anderson and Doug Karsch
2 p.m.-6 p.m. The Sports Inferno -- Mike Valenti and Terry Foster
6 p.m.-10 p.m. The Book on Sports -- Pat Caputo
10 p.m.-2 a.m. Dennis Fithian
