Mr. Irrelevant Is Back (Again)

Another Lions player was placed on the injured reserve today, creating another cause for concern in regards to depth at a certain position. Before I address how the depth issue was solved, let's first get the injury news out of the way.

Stanley Wilson is done for the season with a knee injury and was placed on the IR. With Wilson out for the year, Detroit needed a cornerback to come in to replace him. Who did they re-sign? None other than Mr. Irrelevant himself, Ramzee Robinson.

Robinson was the final player selected in the 2007 NFL Draft and received the title of Mr. Irrelevant because of that. He got to enjoy "Irrelevant Week" during the summer, a week long span of events that even included a parade for the last draft pick of 2007. Although he was cut before the season started, Robinson remained hopeful that he would get his shot. He did actually get on the active roster back in October and played against Tampa Bay, but he was waived only days later. This signing that brings him back appears to be for more than just a few days since it is because an injury created a need for depth.

Players that are on the practice squad always use the phrase that they are just one play away from making it back on to an NFL roster. For Robinson, that is the case as he will return to the team because of an injury. Good luck to both Stanley Wilson in getting healthy again and Ramzee Robinson in getting another shot at making it in the NFL.
